I met Shanna at a ladies’ mountain bike clinic two years ago. She was one of the coaches and she just seemed so approachable and friendly. I was delighted to find out that she was offering private coaching in the Asheville area, where I live. Since that time, I have scheduled coaching with Shanna when I feel like I can’t accomplish what I want to on the mountain bike. Shanna has helped me to develop my skills in almost all aspects of mountain biking. Today I am more confident and better equipped to run technical descents, drops, and jumps. Also it’s not just Shanna‘s skill level that makes her so great. She is kind and supportive - which I really need when I’m feeling intimidated and scared about something. She’s also really fun and I have spent a lot of time laughing with her. Really, you couldn’t ask for a better coach or mountain bike instructor!

When I approached Shanna for lessons my main goal was to improve my technical riding skills. A few months earlier I had signed up for the Pisgah 55.5k race. I had done so to push myself but as the training got underway I had become increasingly nervous I’d pushed myself too far and I did not have the skill set to ride the course. I reached out to Shanna and after only a few lessons I was riding things that, previously, I would never had considered even trying. Like any good teacher she helped me realize and build confidence in the skills I already had while pushing me up to the next level of riding....and all the while having the most fun doing it! Her style is engaging, down to earth and well, just super fun! Which is what riding should be! I also realized it wasn’t just lessons, we really developed more of a coaching type relationship. I felt comfortable asking her questions about gear and reaching out if I had a bad day...she was always there with solid advice and counsel. Basically she’s the best. And, well I ended up second place in my race! There is no way I could have done that on my own. I am looking forward to learning from and riding with Shanna for years to come!

Shanna is a coach who is always at the top of my list to hire and work with. She spreads positivity and confidence but most importantly listens to the needs of those taking a session with her. If you are looking for someone with experience and works hard to create an excellent learning environment, Shanna is an excellent choice.

Shanna is super fuckin rad on the bike, has magical mountain bike fairy powers and knows her shittttt!

Shanna’s enthusiasm for mountain biking shows not only in her riding but also in her love of helping students progress. She has a great understanding of how to help riders build up their skills no matter how long they’ve been in the sport. Her ability to analyze technique and help breakdown progressions is incredibly helpful for improving my skills. I’ve learned so much as her student and shadowing her as a coach!

I have had the pleasure of knowing Shanna a long time and have appreciated her advocacy for biking and particularly her support of women in cycling. I finally did myself service of scheduling some sessions with her. I’ve had a mountain bike since around the time I moved here in 2006. I literally didn’t know how to change gears when I got it. I managed to learn to ride some things around the area but fear and lack of understanding of basics of bike handling kept me from advancing the way I had hoped I would. I participated in a couple of clinics but I really struggled to learn in a group setting. After just two sessions with Shanna I manage to drop things I never thought I would be able to do and switchbacks (my personal nemesis) went from being a huge point of fear to a super fun and easy part of my ride. Do yourself a favor and set up a time to do some sessions with Shanna. I promise you won’t regret it.
